I have found little info anywhere on this particular problem, so I'm posting this for future reference. Our 1991 900, equipped with antilock brakes, began pulling sharply to the left under hard braking (but not hard enough to activate the ABS). After rebuilding both front calipers, I found that the right-front brake could not be bled; fluid barely came out of the bleed nipple when the pedal was depressed. Left front was normal, lots of fluid. The problem turned out to be the ABS valve block (modulator?) bolted to the inner fender. Replacement of the valve block solved the problem.

This system (Teves Mark II ABS, I believe) has a 3-way split: right front, left front and rear. Presumably, the right front circuit was blocked inside the valve block, resulting in no braking at right front wheel, which caused the car to pull left.

Diagnosis involved loosening the input lines from the m/c and noting that equal amounts of brake fluid came out on both front brake circuits when the pedal is pushed. However, at the output lines, the left front circuit pumped out a lot of fluid, while the right front circuit only dripped.

Pipes from m/c to valve block numbered 1-4, with 1 being closest to the inner fender panel:
1 - left front
2 - fluid return to reservoir (larger diameter pipe)
3 - rear
4 - right front
Pipes out from valve block to calipers, numbered 1-3, with 1 being closest to inner fender panel:
1 - left front
2 - rear
3 - right front

I've found a lot of good information on this site (thank you!); I hope this is useful to someone.
