JD,

Hi. I had to replace the "control unit" (LH-Jetronic fuel injection computer) on my Mom's 1990 16V 900 base. They both use the same version of the LH system (LH 2.4) but the computers are a bit different with Turbo vs. non-turbo models.

Anyway, before I was able to located a good used LH-Jetronic computer for my Mom's car, I did the temporary "fix" described by Tom Townsend and others: I put a wire tap (crimp-on type) on the purple wire of the fuel pump relay, which provides a ground to the relay. (It normally gets this ground supplied by the LH computer, but since the computer was bad, the relay wasn't getting a ground connection and wasn't allowing the fuel pump to run.)

Townsend told me to ground purple wire of the relay for fuel pump, located atop the LH computer housing, inside the car, passenger side kick panel, just ahead of the door, behind the carpet--you know. That way, the relay always has a ground. When key is switched on, the fuel pump runs, but it's NOT totally safe--in a wreck, fuel pump would keep running until you shut key off!).

But, it's a cheap, easy fix if you LH computer has gone bad in the above way (there are other ways for it to fail, I think).

Either your mechanic is going to do this for $150 OR he is going to rig up a similar way to send current to the fuel pump (perhaps directly).

Just thought you might want to save a buck and do the same thing much more inexpensively!
