Probably the drive tabs on the converter broke off. Posted by SWEDECAR [Email] ![]() ![]() ![]() In Reply to: 1991 900S automatic trans problem, CB, Thu, 18 Mar 2004 17:07:55 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Did the car run perfect and than just stopped driving.
Can you go through all the gears with the shifter without a slightest hint of movement either forward or back?
One of the Achilles heels on that tranny is the two drive fingers on converter that drives the hydraulic pump.
The fingers are a little bit weak and especially when the oil pump bushing gets worn out it slowly wear down those fingers and they suddenly break, leaving the transmission without any oil pressure.
It is a square plug right below where the transmission oil dip stick enters the trans housing.
A trans shop can hook a pressure gauge up to that port and check for pressure. If it is none, the oil pump have stopped turning and the cause is the converter.
To replace the converter it is a full tear down of transmission and my recommendation is to install a factory rebuilt trans instead.
