Franklin,

For $750, you can't really go wrong. You could part it out for more that much or perhaps more than that, if worst comes to worst.

On the upside, the '90 has the manual transmission with stronger internal components, I've read. This happened on the 1989-later 900 manual gearbox, IIRC.

If the engine idles a bit rough (with roughness just after starting and during warmup which disappears after the first five minutes), I would suspect the AMM (Air Mass Meter) which can be bought remanufactured from $100 to $150 online. A very simple removal/installation (about five minutes).

It probably needs a good tuneup & changing of all the fluids, engine oil, gearbox oil, bleed clutch/brake fluid (NOTE: special brake bleed procedures with ABS cars), antifreeze, even power steering fluid.

Some cautions:

The '90 is the first year for both airbag (driver's) and anti-lock brakes in the 900. Make sure your steering wheel is a four-spoke design (otherwise, wheel might have been replaced following an accident). This happened to us, my Mom's '90 900 we bought used had a 3-spoke wheel and the horn didn't work. We later learned it should have had a four-spoke wheel with the big airbag casing in the middle!

Also, make sure the SRS lamp (Supplemental Restraint System, or airbag light) isn't blinking. If it is, the SRS system might need a new computer or clockspring (wiring contact under steering wheel) or impact sensor.

And make sure the ABS and Brake Fluid lights come on druing starting and go off about 20-30 seconds after startup. You should hear a buzzing motor sound from the engine during this time as the ABS pump is working to accumulate the needed brake system pressure.

The '90 (and all LH 2.4 900) can self-diagnose its fuel injection computer to some extent. You can have the computer blink diagnostic codes via flashing sequences of the "Check Engine" light. Search here or click on my name above this post to email me for more info.
