While it could be the master cylinder, it seems more likely that the problem is with the slave cylinder. If you look under the car at the hole in the bottom of the clutch housing, you'll probably see fluid leaking out.
Bad master cylinders do not usually leak lots of fluid. However, it is probably wise to replace both the master and slave at the same time.
It is also possible that the hose leading to the slave cylinder has developed a leak. That will produce the same symptoms. In particular, check the rubber section that leads to the slave cylinder.
