I replaced a fender on my 85 900 a couple years ago after some dingbat drove her Tahoe into it while it was parked on the side of the road. Since it was facing the wrong way, the police didn't cite her, and, in fact, gave me a parking ticket! I beat the ticket in court, but never saw any money from her. I suspect she knew the police. I still hate that white trash bitch. I hope she gets bone cancer.
Anyway, if you plan to replace the fender, plan on replacing the inner fender as well. Its actually easier that way. Find a parts car, and cut the whole assembly off it(you end up with a big piece) It will take you at least an hour with a sawzall. Take your new fender home, and using a spot weld removing drill bit, drill out all the spot welds that hold the inner fender to the body part you cut off. Then do the same to your car. Rig up your new fender with vice grips and weld away. The entire process took me less then 8 hours.
If you were to use a fender that was the same color as your car, you could actually get away without painting it. Just paint over your spot welds on the inside.
Before you start you need:
sawzall
mig welder
many vice grips
spot weld removing drill bits
good drill
