If your landlords garage door ever falls on your car, it’s not his fault, it’s yours for operating the door. Because of this I had the opportunity to replace the rear window.
First off, it was much easier than I thought it was going to be. The suggestion from Saabu to use plenty of silicon is a good one.
To remove and install all I did was the following.
-Disconnect the defrost.
-Remove the metal piece at the bottom of the window.
-Remove the seal that sits in the main seals groove.
-Loosen the seal from the inside of the window, a flathead screwdriver helps.
-Pry the seal away so there is a space, and spray with silicon.
-With the hatch open, push from underneath. Mine popped right out.
-Keep the seal attached to the window.
-Spray around the underside of the seal with silicon.
-Slide the top of the window and seal into place first.
-Make sure the seal is properly aligned on the top (from both the inside and outside).
-Push the window as far as it will go into the top portion of the groove.
-Push the window into place, working from the top down.
-Again, go from the inside and make sure the seal is aligned correctly. You will probably need a screwdriver to get it in place.
-Once it is in place, reinstall the first seal you removed. This took me the longest, about half the time.
-Reinstall the metal piece.
-Reconnect the defrost.
Done.
This took me about 25 minutes, start to finish, and was my first time. Maybe I was just lucky, but I hope this helps someone.
Thanks to the BB for all the help on all of my Saab projects.
