The next time you have an opportunity to drive on an interstate for 75 or more miles, try this.
Fill up just before your run. Fill up carefully, right up to the neck.
Now, until you refill after your hiway run, DO NOT get into the boost. Not once, not even a little, none. Drive any final speed you like. but, drive like gas was $20 a gallon, no boost, not even on the on-ramp.
After your long hiway run, fill up immediately, no local driving, none. Do it as carefully as the first time, 'cause small errors in a 2 or 3 gallon refill will result in large errors in your MPG calculation.
I suspect you will get surprisingly good MPG. Probably over 30 MPG.
It's not your spark plugs causing the problem, it's the LOUD PEDAL that's the culprit.
It's the "fun factor" that impinges heavily on the high MPG equation.
Since your car has "Tons of Power", you know all about "Fun Factor".
It's tough to drive like there's an egg on the gas pedal, but, it is a worthy experiment, that will likely make you feel great about your cars ability to get high MPG.
Then, you won't mind the extra cost, 'cause that's what makes you smile...
I've gotten 36 MPG on long, level, smooth, traffic jam-free, 75-85 mph runs with summer blend gas (no mtbe or ethanol), like from NY to Annapolis.
