Fuel tank cracks and repair Posted by couch tour [Email] (#187) [Profile/Gallery] (more from couch tour) on Thu, 21 Sep 2006 11:42:34 In Reply to: Re: Fuel tank differences?, Shauno, Thu, 21 Sep 2006 08:19:41 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
My '92 developed cracks where the driver side strap contacted a weld in the gas tank. Good luck finding an intact gas tank at the junkyard. Most junkyards punch holes in them to drain before putting them out there.
I repaired mine. It's only been a month and 2000 miles, but it doesn't leak at all any more. The repair cost very little and wasn't difficult, so I'm willing to see how long it'll last. If I had to bet, I'd say it'll last a few years. If it cracks again, I'm likely to repair it again rather than spend some $500-$600 on a new tank. The other nice thing was I didn't have to remove the fuel pump or fuel sender. The bad news was that I ended up having to get a new fuel elbow and attach it to the old line with fuel hose and hose clamps (that also doesn't leak so far...)
