Sorry, it was the bourbon talking ;) What tipped you off?
Since you've done a few repairs to this area, perhaps you could share some insight as to where a few preemptive drain holes might effectively eliminate the problem before it starts.
If this will alleviate the build up of crud in there, the Saab Net community might just cause a national shortage of cobalt drill bits!
PK is correct about 'Waxoyl' if it's what I think it is - it will creep into inaccessible crevices then congeal...Wurth makes two similar products called 'Protective Wax' [mfr product #0893 081] & 'Body Protection' [mfr product #0893 082], go to Wurthusa.com then look under "catalog" & click on chemicals. If one of the site sponsors doesn't carry Wurth products, Bavarian Autosport does...or used to anyway. Another option is from "Spray On" called 'P.D.R.P Waxy Film' [mfr product #S00710] which can be found at MSC Industrial Supply (mscdirect.com). I recommend staying off MSC's mailing list if possible, it's a reputable company...but they'll probably send you their "big book" which is ENORMOUS & weighs as much as a bowling ball...my wife keeps putting it in the recycling bin & I keep pulling it out! It contains a dizzying array of stuff...but trust me, you don't need it. Any of those 'wax' treatments should be perfect for forestalling the dreaded RF control arm mount frame rot...but first you have to clean out the crud!
I was recently on a link off of a link someplace about an independent comparison test of brand-X (don't remember) vs Por-15...& brand-X was the winner. I remember something about better performance after it was thinned for spray application, superior perimeter/edge protection & a better finish surface. I'm sure Por-15 is very good, but my point is that there are other products out there that may be comparable or better. Do a web search for 'rust treatments' - 'Rust Bullet' comes up often.
Do you have any recommendations about dealing with rear upper shock mount rust PK mentioned? I've got some on my 85' 900t as a result of bad assembly line caulking.
