I also have problems shifting into second at times. I just got my 1991 900s about two months ago (as of September 07), and it has about 213K. Overall, its in wonderful condition. As I heard is very common, some teeth are missing in reverse. But, I also encounter grinding nearly everytime I shift into reverse, and I see no reason why teeth would have anything to do with that.
I am no car expert, but I believe my clutch is in relatively good condition. The action is very quick, and entirely at the top. There is a good STRONG feeling in the clutch, and I can clearly see (from the revs) when it is engaging. I got this car from my uncle, and he says that second usually does not grind IF you press the clutch alllll the way in. But who wants to do that when you've got a 900? THAT PEDAL IS FREAKING LONG!
