trim strip: A couple years ago I replaced all the silver trim on my bumpers and bumper extensions on my ’90 SPG. Hadn’t really wanted to spend $175-$200 on original Saab parts (some of which are discontinued), so I toured some car lots seriously searching for a suitable replacement. Best I could find was the rear bumper trim from ‘98-’02 Buick Century. It’s chrome finished, but round profiled (Saab OEM is almost flat), and a little narrower vertically than the original. It’s also self-adhesive (peel-n-stick), which made the job somewhat easier – no end clips to deal with.
The trim strip for Buick is thicker, so I carefully trimmed the backside with a utility knife for 3/8 to 5/8 inch where it gets inserted into the bumper cover & panels. Cleaned the area with Brake Cleaner, so it adheres nicely, and was careful to align it with the top of the slot. Looks quite good, won’t pass Concours judging, but does look very nice – and I’m old and critical! I bought 2 rear bumper trim strips at the Buick dealer for $75, and had just enough, plus 10” or so left over. They had it in stock for the body shops.
Just an idea.
Your SPG looks very nice!
