First off, check for fuel leaks. After you run the car, is there a fuel smell anywhere under the hood? Check the line that supplies the full pressure from the fuel filter to the high side of the fuel distributor and also to the high side of the warm-up regulator. This line sprung a leak on my '88 last summer at the regulator. Also check the low pressure lines to each of the injectors and the lambda pulse injector and the cold start injector. Look for staining underneath them.
And finally, check the disc in the airflow meter. Sometimes these get stuck down with oil blowback sitting on top of the disk (weighing it down and forcing the car rich) and around the edges of the disk (sticking it in place). The final check is to see if the disc and lever assembly move freely from rest. If not, there could be varnish on the regulator plunger, or it could have seen some cavitation and need replacing.
I still think it's either the spark issue or residual pressure, but there's a little more.
