Exactly 288 SiS convertibles were made. ... and only in 1988. Of those (4) were automatics...the remaining 284 were manual transmissioned. I know of several that were actually converted to SLUSHBOX! Don't ask why! LOL.
Cars were Black, with Eduardian dark grey leather interior and black fabric roofs. Cars came clad with SPG-style aerodynamic skirts and 3-spoke SPG wheels. Leather shift boot if it was a 5-speed. All of the cars had a small emblem on the glove box denoting them as Springtime in Sweden dealer cars. The cars had exterior emblems removed. In addition, each dealer received a glass Orrefors Vase commemorating the special edition.
The 1988 SiS is not a true SPG in the sense that it did not have a HO engine, nor suspension components.
The SiS shouldn't be confused with the 1991 SE or special edition 900 Convertibles. Those cars came in Monte Carlo Yellow or Platana Gray, both with gray interiors. These cars had airbags, SPG skirting, SPG wheels, etc. .. but again they do not share any of the SPG's higher horsepower engine nor suspension components. They have black roofs. f those
Many folk have added SPG wheels and skirting to convertibles over the years (and 3-doors too for that matter). The 1988 SiS are difficult to authenticate. On some there is a stiker or decal behind the driver's door interior panel that denotes it as AERO - meaning it is to be set up to accept the SPG/Aero panels at the factory. The SiS Badge is a confirmation too. The dash badge is probably worth $3k in the value of the car . LOL.
There were approximately 300 of each color made. (The Yellow was made in slightly less quantities.. ..anyone have the #'s??) Also, the automatic was more prevalent an option for the SE cars in both the yellow and gray.
