'91 SPG w/ usual tweaks (brad pipe, #24 inj, AID, APC).
Car runs great.
In February my clutch started slipping. OEM turbo clutch installed by SAAB Tech roughly 18 months prior. Within a week or two it was slipping badly. Figuring I'd upgrade, I bought a kevlar clutch from a site sponsor. The SAAB Tech that installed it mentioned it was beefier than the OEM unit, and that the OEM unit was not worn out.
On the way home I get on the highway and the new clutch slips in 4th & 5th gears. Contact the supplier next morning. I'm told "The clutch needs a couple of months to bed-in under normal driving, and must not be allowed to slip during this process" OK...never heard that before, and nowhere was that mentioned in the paperwork that came with it. Major buyers remorse, but ok, I'm busy at work and don't want the hassle... Unhook the APC and drive with base boost for 2 months or so. Hook up APC and go for a test drive...still slips, not as bad as before. Unhook the APC for another couple months and try again. Still slipping, but not as bad as before. Gas mileage is better w/ only base boost, btw. In July I can't take it anymore and hook up APC...but keep out of red boost as much as possible. It's now almost 7 months and the damn thing still slips in higher gears under red boost. Customer service is basically zilch, "give it more time. We'll replace the unit if it's defective, but you'll have to send it back". There's no evidence that oil or other fluid got in there and caused this whole thing, but I suppose it's possible (the tech said everything looked fine).
Finally my question...would having the flywheel resurfaced do any good?
Opinions?
