You shouldn't heat the fuel line when fitting. Stretching the line will guarantee a leak. Do not cut off the line from the banjo fitting with a knife as this may damage the coupling surfaces and will leak. You should use a soldering iron or hot knife.
When fitting, cut the line straight across with a razor blade and get a short piece of rubber hose whose ID is close to the OD of the fuel line.
Slit the rubber hose and fit over the line (be sure it's clean) with a little of the line sticking out. Put it in a vise or clamp it some other way with just enough pressure to hold it from moving.
Place the fitting over the line and give it a quick whack with a hammer and that should do it.
