crank pulley hall effect sensor replacement

Just replaced hall sensor behind crank pulley on my 90 -900, with a commercial part (Honeywell Microswitch 4AV16F). This is the direct replacement for the original part (Honeywell 3AV series), which is discontinued. You need to splice in the lead wires, matching colors, but the part is much, much cheaper than buying from auto supply sources(~$25 plus shipping), and is widely available from places like Digikey, Newark, Mouser... Part data sheets available on line as well.
The dying sensor would cause intermittant stalling (no spark), and would typically restart immediately, making debugging difficult. It eventually stayed dead for a few minutes while I was able to probe the green wire for voltage changes as I turned the engine over (jacked a wheel and put car in gear). I believe the test is described in Bentley, the Hall sensor grounds the 5V signal on the green wire when the slot in the aperature disk enters the sensor.
Passing this along in case it helps someone else.
