New cruise control stalk = wild acceleration?

Hi Folks,
Finally decided I had enough of the sloppy turn signal and bought a new one from Eeuro. Installation did require splitting in connection.
When the cruise would be set, the car accelerated on it's own. It wouldn't stop accelerating till I turned the cruise off. Eeuro did an exchange. Same thing again with the second stalk.
Kicker is when I installed the old one back while awaiting the arrival of the second stalk, all worked correctly again.
what could be wrong?
Thank you,
Boris
