Houston we have engine separation Posted by Bob_SAAB_101 [Email] (#460) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Bob_SAAB_101) on Sun, 14 Jun 2009 21:33:15 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
My swap of manual to autobox on my 94 vert continues.
This weekend was separate engine from transmission. I don't think I could have done it without searching the board.
I worked slow and removed all the 13 mm bolts from the engine / transmission join, then removed the 8 bolts holding the torque converter. I slowly jacked it up and,, no separation! Reading Bently, I saw that I was supposed to "line up brackets on flex disk horizontally" What the heck does that mean? I tried horizontally as the engine sat, no dice.
Search the forum, Cmiles and Notnoel and all the others, thank you. The tranny is now separated.
Here is what I did with photos.
I really didn't know what was keeping the disk locked on, mostly since I did not realize the bolts on the flex disk had one "missing" to allow separation. I lined up the "not the timing bracket" with the starter hole as Notnoel suggested. as I lifted it took just a nudge to separate.
The first pic shows the bolt pattern and the bracket lined up. The photo of the converter shows the nub that must clear though the space left by the mission bolt.
All I can say is, the Bently is not clear on this, and thanks for the tips.
