Intermittent no start issue

My 1987 would not start three different times.. Last Sept after an hour drive and having sat to cool for 3 hours, in January after a 20 min drive and 5 mins sitting and last week after sitting overnight. After each time it started either minutes or several weeks later. The first time it started after I jumped the fuel pump fuse but that was determined to seemingly be coincidental. The second time it would not start for several weeks. It will turn over but not start. I tested several things and found:
Fuel pump seems to work based on measuring volume and flow of fuel and also hearing it run, checked distributer which seemed to be OK but replaced with another used one known to work in case that is intermittent, bypassed turbo overboost protect switch, tested ignition control mod - checks ok. .. After putting in the replacement distributer the car would not start. 5 minutes later, however, it was rough when it started but did, in fact, start. I have been driving it and waiting for it to fail on me again.
The car sometimes runs rough at higher RMPs, not sure if that's related to this issue and if it's a fuel problem
I am wondering what I should test or replace. Fuel injectors, main computer for car? Is this likely to be electrical or fuel related? Sorry for this loooonng message. Any good advice to prevent being stranded would be appreciated.
