I have simular issue w/88 SPG. Great spark but fuel system shuts down. Jumping fuel pump at fuse box activates pump, but no start, likely due to no fuel injector action.
I tried LH (2.2) ECU swap, along with main & fuel pump relay swap, no change. Looks like engine timing signal is not making it from ignition amplifier to ECU. ECU doesn't "know" engine is turning, so it does not activate fuel pump and fuel injectors.
On your 90 turbo, the engine signal originates from the crank position sensor (the 88 comes from the Hall sensor). I suspect the cps sends its data to the ignition amp, which forwards the signal to the ECU for fuel management (and to the coil for ignition).
This is an intermittent problem on my car, so I need to wait for the next incident to be sure its the ignition amplifier signal. Meanwhile, I leave the ECU exposed so I can get instant access to it next time the no-start issue occurs.
This is an old post, so what happened????
