rear seat interior panel

I am changing out my interior on my 92 900 hatch-changing from taupe to black. I am installing new Recaro seats from a 9000 as well. It seems the new rear seat panels are diffrent from my existing ones. The new ones(which I assume came from an older 900) do not have the indention(of the panel itself) and tab that slips into the integrated notch on the back of the B-pillar at the base.
I seems I have two options: 1)remove(cut out) the notch(channel) on my existing b-pillar so the pillar can lay flush(but now there would only be the seat belt bolt holding the b-pillar down) or 2)get the b-pillar from a similar year from which the interior came from. I can call the guy that shipped it and see if he still has them.
Any ideas or suggestions?
How is b-pillar anchored at the top?
Also, how do you think it would look leaving the taupe carpet and everything else black?
thanks,
Mark
