Hmm... typical '90 SPG issues. Not sure about the speedometer issue... But I have a '90 SPG with some of the other issues.

Sunroof fix is all in the Bentley manual. Sounds like it was a DIY job before and he put it in a little wrong. Easy to replace the headliner underneath - make sure you save the white plastic strip that clamps the headliner down if you can. It should also be in the Bentley manual.

EGR is short for exhaust gas recirculation. It was required to pass california emissions testing. It sends a small amount of exhaust back into the intake. It is basically a metal hose with coiled wire around it going from exhaust manifold to underneath the intake manifold, a vacuum hose, and a electrical connection. Also includes a special ECU (Jetronic #...582) and an EGR emmissions sticker. If it's working, leave it. Sometimes the valve on the intake side of the hose freezes shut over time and causes problems. It could cause a high or variable idle or make your engine run rich and sound horrible. Could be your idle problem. They did make a kit to delete it which included a bolt to plug the exhaust manifold, a plug and gasket to plug under the intake manifold, plugs for the vacuum lines, a ...585 or ...948 ECU, and a new non-EGR emissions sticker. All you have to do is disconnect both ends of the EGR hose and rip it out, plug everything up, put the emissions sticker on, and switch out the ECU and your car will run like new.

When I did mine a couple years ago, the idle was totally whacked and I had tried everything else to calm it down. Finally bought the kit (ebay) and ripped the EGR out. The kit came and the ECU did not work. So I traced the intake plug and made my own, found a bolt from a junkyard to plug the exhaust manifold, found a 585 ECU in a junk yard, and scanned the emissions sticker and printed it on 3M adhesive paper. Worked like a charm.

2 things to be aware of... the 582 EGR ECU will still work with the EGR deleted, but you will always have a check engine light. To pass inspection, you will need that light off. So find yourself a 585 or a 948. They seem to work about the same once the EGR is deleted.

The emissions sticker needs to be replaced or it will throw off emissions testing. The one I scanned was a 1992 sticker. When I had my SPG emissions tested, they came in and asked if I had had the engine replaced. I told them about the EGR delete and emissions ticker replacement and they said it was fine as long as it was not a different engine. They passed it. If I were to do it again, I would probably photoshop the sticker to say the same year. If you need that scan, let me know I can send a copy.

As far as your stereo, they come out with ones now with USB and iPod connections. Those are really sweet. Mine has an iPod connection in the back. Drilled a hole through the inside of the glove compartment and ran a line to the back of the stereo. Now keep the ipod and everything in the glove box so that it can be locked. Look for that option, it's awesome. If you like xm radio, get a deck that's satellite compatible. It should have a little SAT icon on the front. That's a cool option. Other than that, just look for something that's comfortable and easy to use and looks cool with the rest of the dash.
