Well I thought hatch popping open was history but again it became unlatched but closed yesterday and fortunately not all the way open as two days ago with the stronger struts and gusty tail wind at freeway speed....geez. As per Gabriel I adjusted the latch midway in travel (prior to popping open yesterday and it seemed ok)and screwed the rubber bumpers to minimum extension but again hatch unlatched.
I then readusted the latch slightly down and it seems to hold. This puts the hatch in less compression on seals. I have not had this problem with two previous c900's with similar mileage 150k and as I mentioned the latch parts actually look good. As Siegfried said I dont believe the struts are the root of the problem but can aggrevate a worn or misaligned hatch latch. There does appear to be a little wear in the hinges which I wonder if this could allow a bit of movement when closed. A few degrees of movement in hinges can translate into a significant movement at latch point.
