clutch bleeding

So, for the second time I've been struggling with bleeding the clutch. First, after replacing master, I finally borrowed a pressure device whose name I can't remember, from my nephew's transmission shop and introduced fluid thru the bleeder nipple. That worked fine, certainly better than the vacuum device I was trying before.
This time I had a broken rubber section on the clutch line and after replacing the part, I again tried my vacuum device and again had zero success. (Duh!!) Since it was the weekend, the nephew's shop was unavailable to me, so I followed some advice found here and used gravity to get the fluid in thru the bleeder nipple. I put about six ounces (guess) and let my reservoir go empty and the fluid fall down the clear tube as far as it wanted to go. Guess what, the level in the tube stopped falling at exactly the height of the brake/clutch reservoir! Closed off the bleeder and I had a clutch again. Test drive tells me I have not quite as much peddle as I had before, but it works.
Question: I've read here about 'pumping the peddle 50 times or so' will clear up such problems. Do they mean just pump the peddle or pump the peddle and try to bleed some more?
I have no helper available now and just want to research the next step while I have an adult beverage or two!!
Swear to God I don't know how the old '91 900T would survive without y'all here at Saabnet.
