I've done it on my 94 vert (non turbo) I used an 88 with the hall effect and wires coming out. I think I used the connector from my headlight wiper which is long dead. You would have to look. The vac connector is ignored. Before taking my word for it I would search the site as there are plenty who have done it.
I also believe that a turbo dist can be used, but I am not 100% sure..
I used it for a year until I got around to doing the crank sensor, which wasn't that bad a job.
I still keep the distributor handy as an emergency tool.
