I'm starting to wish that I had developed that style. I was always taught that engine braking would extend the life of your brakes. Thinking about it now, I would much rather replace brakes than the transmission. Hindsight is 20/20, right?
But then again, this car has been incredible. Bought it as a full factory airflow for $1700 from a kid who had gotten so many speeding tickets that he warned me that I could not drive the car in half a dozen towns in Vermont or New Hampshire because the cops all knew the car. He also threw in three spare sets of SPG rims with good tires and more than $1700 in spare parts that he had changed out for aftermarket (clear corners, wood shift knob, leather boot, speaker grills with tweeters, spare SPG kit, two sets of spare bumper extensions, accessory gauges, etc). I sold most of that and essentially got the car for free. It's been 4 years now, we've driven her across the country twice (once with a trailer), hauled furniture, hit almost every national park we could think of, it was decorated after our wedding, flew it off the interstate once with no damage at all, and taken it completely apart and put it back together at least twice. Replaced almost everything except the original transmission and engine. She has 250k and has had an incredible life. If the transmission were to go now, I would be happier that she lived more than sad that she died.
