That's a different kind of weight Zeke :-) Thanks, I'm well and still working with the Indycar teams.
Think of it this way, the lug nuts on a Porsche were made from aluminum material to reduce unsprung weight -- talk about a radical approach..... One innovation in the rear of cars was to put in De dion type rear suspensions, so the weight of the different is sprung weight attached to the body instead of sprung from the axle in a rear drive car.
Reducing unsprung weight is better than adding horsepower but it can equate to the same. It has little to do with the effort to turn the wheel, but everything to do with how the suspension sucks up bumps, and the how the dampening system works efficiently.
Tires of course by weight affect it as well. We've taken brand new tires and spun off most of the tread to get rid of weight and the flex bias to get better grip in corners. It is a crazy world.....
