A lot of the 85s had insulation on the wiring that gradually deteriorated with time and exposure to oil etc. The result was a variety of symptoms depending on which wire happened to be shorting out. On my son's '85, the car would just die for no apparent reason. After resting for a while and cooling off, it would restart.
To check it out, open up the wiring harness that goes over the top of the engine and inspect the wires. If you're lucky, someone has already replaced the bad wires or the entire harness. If you aren't lucky, the insulation on some of the wires will be a gooey mess and you'll be in for some rewiring.
