My brother's one-man business, Fluxion, does plasma coating of numerous metals, even lithium and diamond (he invented the machines that did the Schick Diamond Coated razors and it worked so well they had him introduce macro-particles to the blades would wear -- engineered obsolescence). He's currently in India doing an installation (sure hope he gets paid). This would be the supreme gold standard $$$($) for what you are trying to do. Given that it involves a vacuum chamber and mucho engineering for each particular item (coupon). The adhesive mylar or even the aluminum tape sounds like the way to go.
