I vote for cutting down the brake pedal - 100% Posted by Notnoel [Email] (#23) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Notnoel) on Thu, 17 May 2012 06:39:54 In Reply to: Sounds great! couple of questions., F.Davalos, Wed, 16 May 2012 05:57:27 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I have a 1990 with ABS that that I converted. Cutting the existing pedal down is the way to go. I salvaged an entire assembly from my parts car, and it was a PITA to take it out - I would not want to have to do a full R&R of the unit (my hands cramp up and my back starts hurting from just thinking about it).
Just cut down the brake pedal so that the rubber pedal cover fits (this should be intuitively obvious); IIRC, you are basically removing the left half and rounding the edges. I had the benefit of having the full assembly from a 1989 to look at when planning my cuts.
If you've got access to a manual car, just trace it, and cut an index card to match its size and gradually work it down to the right size. If you don't have another Saab around as a model, you can work out the pattern using index cards or poster board until the pattern fits snugly under the lip of the rubber pedal cover (trial and error).
Mine line up perfectly.
