3 questions- clutch change Posted by Markatl [Email] (#1833) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Markatl) on Sun, 27 May 2012 08:55:44 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I am about to attempt the clutch change on my 1992 900 turbo-154,000 miles. I have read all the threads pertaining to it. But I have other questions.....
Can I take the flywheel to any mechanic to have it resurfaced?
Also, Do I have to replace the clutch disk and pressure plate if they look fine? my problem is the release bearing squeel. And what exactly should I look for on the pressure plate and disk?
I was told by the previous owner the clutch had been redone(and I cant remember what parts exactly),so I dont know what to expect once I go in.
Also,I was going to opt for the OEM disc and plate but the dealer said it would be june-july till he can get it, so my other option is from the site sponsor. the brand for the kit is Professional Parts Sweden for $190. OR just the plate for $95 from AP. Any opinions on these brands? Could not find much info on them. Or should I just track down SACHS somehwere?
I am planning to do all other parts once I am in there but I am looking to keep costs down; I may have a tranny rebuild in the near future-bad synchros. The pinion does not whine nor do gears pop out( I did do the reverse gear fix though) but some gears were a bit hard to get into before this bad release bearing issue and I figure it will only get worse as time goes by. The clutch replacement will help now- it is really hard to get in first and second when cold and grinds when going into reverse.
so really three questions.
thanks for any help
Mark
