The alternator belts I have purchased lately, although they list as the correct length, have all been on the long side. They feel tight enough when first setting up the belt tensions, but you are right at the end of the adjustment range, so as soon as they stretch even a little bit, they're slipping, exacerbated by humidity. Tightening the adjuster feels like it's tight already, but it's a mechanical limit, not the belt getting any tighter. My neighbors probably hate me in the mornings, as I leave for work before 6, and unless it's a bone dry morning, I can count on 10 to 60 seconds of squealing belts as the engine bumps up from low revs. Of course, it's a quarter million miler, so it does the SAAB morning stumble, and when the revs drop, the belt starts squealing again. If there were any pigs in our neighborhood, they'd follow me halfway to work...
