...with advice from oldsaab, about 4 1/2 years ago maybe. Original arm was rust-eaten and had collapsed when prior owner ski-jumped the car over a bumpy railroad crossing. He bought the parts, I bought the broken car and did the a-arms, motor still in car.
So I must have been able to get at the upper a-arm mounting bolts and turn them. I distinctly remember finding that the bolts seemed needlessly long and the part of the threads that projected past the made nut was pretty badly rusted. Yours probably broke free when someone going to adjust shims or remove the bolts entirely got to the rusted place and the weld cracked free.
There were some very awkward things I had to do at places. I can't remember the mounting bolts themselves, so no specific advice for you. I own a great variety of tools, a 1" long 3/8" drive Snap-On wobble extension for instance, and a set of GearWrenches, and have developed a "don't-let-it-win" attitude that means I'll do the impossible sometimes.
Look close at it, try angles. Maybe something needs to come out of the way? I had the motor mount out on that side as part of this all as I recall, one of the nastier parts of the job, covered in dense oil-soaked sand, and a few near-impossible bolts involved there. Hope you don't have to do that.
