Ignition Key Cylinder

When I went to start my 1981 Saab 900 something broke in the key cylinder, at the point where the starter should engage. The key now moves freely in the cylinder but everything is stuck in the "accessory mode" which meant that the battery had to be disconnected to stop the heater fan and radio from running. Can this be fixed or does the whole mechanism need to be replaced? If so where might I get a new or used one? This car is an automatic.
