I just replaced mine... Posted by poop deck pappy [Email] (#2012) [Profile/Gallery] (more from poop deck pappy) on Tue, 18 Jun 2013 06:19:23 In Reply to: air conditioning refit, 91SPG, Mon, 17 Jun 2013 09:22:20 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I wanted a Seiko Sako (OEM) and found a shop here in Atlanta that did vintage cars and offered a 2 year warranty. They installed a new OEM and the clutch burned out within days. That happen four more times. Each OEM unit, re-maned or NOS burned out. The shop finally asked if I would change compressors. We changed to a Dresden with custom lines to the evaporator. The lines to the receiver/dryer remained the same.
This compressor is a little louder and has more of a parasitic drag but in 95 degree Atlanta heat I had to turn off the A/C because I got too cold. I'm sure others have had great experiences with The OEM unit but there are other options. The key to this job is finding the right shop and if you live in a place as hot as Atlanta it's worth finding and paying to get this kind of cooling. I'll post pictures to my gallery latter today. My total cost was $1050.
Let the derision begin.
