Would you take your 900 "Into the Wild"?

Hi All,
My wife and I are looking at doing a road trip to the Yukon and Alaska and I'd like some feedback on your comfort level driving one of these cars way off the beaten path.
My 900s has been in the family since new, and has been lovingly cared for. That being said, it has 225,000km on it and no matter how much it's been cared for it's over 20 years old.
I have no problem packing belts, water pump, distributer, etc.... But what if we're in the Yukon and a bearing in the transmission goes? Is there any way to guess if your car is up for it? I love my Saabs, but for a trip like this is it better to be in a Ford or something where parts and service are a little more universal?
Thanks!
