Replace the voltage regulator brushes without removing Posted by poop deck pappy [Email] (#2012) [Profile/Gallery] (more from poop deck pappy) on Fri, 20 Sep 2013 18:11:22 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
the alternator.
I went through many of the post on this subject. I remember all to well replacing the alternator and bushing just 6 months ago. Turns out the remanned alternator didn't have fresh brushes. I still find it hard to believe someone remanned this part without replacing them. It calls into question the job they did on the alternator itself. It also teaches me to check should this ever come up again.
Removed the air intake tube.
Used a long ratchet extension and a 12mm socket to remove the top and right oil filter housing boss bolts.
The third bolt will unscrew but not easily pass the oil cooler line. There is no need to remove it just unscrew it completely.
Swing the filter, lines and boss to the left side and you have complete and unfettered access to the VR.
Removal and installation is incredibly easy with this out of the way.
Seal with your choice of gasket or sealant and reattach boss.
Total time to do the job was 10 minutes.
I was quoted 1.5 hours by two different Saab shops.
This was mentioned in one of the earlier post but not really written up.
