Needless to say he didn't buy it.
A little history: A couple of weeks ago my '91 n/a 5 speed a had a faulty crank position sensor that instead of replacing, I did the distributor conversion swap with a turbo distributor that has the Hall sensor mounted to it (thanks Justin). After the swap, the car drove fine for a few miles before the car would then not accelerate over 2400 rpm. The temp gauge started to rise and the car was also backfiring. There was the smell of burning rubber and the Bosch wires gave me a little shock as I tried to find some wiring issues. I nursed it back home and later replaced the Bosch wires with a used set of Bougicords (thanks RS for that tip). Car ran fine again for a few miles, and then the same problem. One of the wires was loose at the distributor which I tightened.
It ran fine for 15 miles or so when this time, three blocks from my house and an hour before I was supposed to show the car for sale, it nearly died altogether. Now it wouldn't rev up nearly at all and the little it could it sounded very rough. So there I was on the side of my road with hood up on a beautiful Indian summer Saturday afternoon, when an SUV pulls up.
The guy gets out and says "You must be Tim?".
"Yes sir. You must be Rob?" I say.
So the guy who came to buy my car, towed me home.
Once again I ask, where do I go from here? Do I start swapping in the EZK and/or Ignition amplifier? The vacuum advance from the turbo distributor is NOT plugged,is that an issue? I may have a vacuum leak on top at the stem that goes into the near the valve cover towards the firewall.
Could it be a bad catalytic converter? While diagnosing the faulty crank position sensor, I cranked the starter a terrible amount of time. I'm leaning towards this. It has a rough idle now even under load and exhaust putters out the tail pipe. Thanks.
