"frequency" grumble (NOT engine related) Posted by iveand [Email] (#3155) [Profile/Gallery] (more from iveand) on Mon, 4 Nov 2013 18:51:54 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
When traveling at 25mph, I have an approx. 2 times per second "grumble" that does not change with the clutch in (so doesn't seem to be engine related). It seems it used to be more noticeable when slightly turning, but now is noticeable at all times. So, I am guessing cv, inner axle joint, wheel bearing?
On taking the front driver's side wheel off, there is a LOT of leakage from what seems to be the cv boot (but the boot itself is in good condition). The leakage is all on the outside of the boot, so it is strange. It is sprayed all around the wheel well, so hard to tell where it came from originally. Possibly something like brake fluid dripping down, but it is quite thick? Maybe there is a tear in the boot I didn't see (I should have felt it out more closely).
247K, the transmission was rebuilt relatively recently, but before my ownership. The guy indicated "everything had been changed that could have been".
1990 SPG. Thanks for any leads on which parts are likely culprits that would generate the "frequency grumble".
Attempting to provide a link to a photo of the cv boot.
