What i had predicted might be a timing chain noise on My buddy's '88 900T actually ended up being, not the inner CV, but a transmission /final-drive issue.
He got it towed down to me and after a VERY short test drive determined the source of the alarming clatter noise was originating from the differential. Up onto the lift it went and off came the differential cover. BAM! about 2 and half teeth blown off the pinion gear and various chunks taken from the ring gear.
Well. Whats next? New/used tranny I suppose. Searching for a donor car.
What are any other options?
Are there still differential gear sets/parts available for these old babes?
The Whole power plant is coming out in the next few weeks. So We'll be updating the timing chain and broken guide/s as well.
Just a damn shame really. We just swapped this transmission in there only 2 summers ago because the original had totally lost reverse gear engagement.
