Here's my two cents on the "which welder to buy" topic.
Many of you may not have heard of Everlast welding machines, but for the money, they are superb. Using an inverter power source rather than a transformer gives them the performance of a much larger machine, yet they are small, light, and have great arc stability. Their entry level MIG machine will run on 110/120v household current, yet will give a 35% duty cycle @ 135 amps! Welding sheet metal calls for less amperage though, and at 85 amps the Everlast can weld at 100% duty cycle. I like having the capacity to get going and keep going, rather than doing stop and start to keep the machine from overheating. In comparison the Harbor Freight 170 amp machine offers around a 40% duty cycle at 85 amps.
They can also be resold for much more than a HF unit if you decide your rust repair was enough welding for you.
