That would probably be a waste of PB, but not a waste of a cocktail, to build bravery to dump the clutch.......
Of the many gearboxes I've seen that stopped dead, it was the pinion shaft bearings that had overheated/melted and then the rotating components froze to the shaft. In one case, the end of the pinion exited the side of the case, after being consumed by the ring gear and then puked out. It had sheared off the shaft.
I just bought a gearbox that is stationed in Weaverville, NC that would be a good candidate for a rebuild. I'll guess you are on the east coast, and closer to outfits like Erickson.
My suggestion is to buy a car with a running engine / gearbox that the body is shot, and then swap in the unit, fixing some stuff along the way.
I'm wondering if this is the red car in your gallery and if so, has the body been resprayed the ruby red but it started as a green car? If that was the case, it probably belonged to a friend of mine :-)
