Low fuel gauge tests have me stumped Posted by Ken [Email] (#2113) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Ken) on Sun, 5 Mar 2017 16:27:26 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Gauge is inconsistant. 1/2 tank reads 1/8 today. Yesterday it was over 1/4. So I swapped in a known good fuel sender. Same problem. There are three wires to the sender, G is 12 from the gauge, BN is 12v from the warning light, and BK is ground. Fine. I get that. Ground pin in the connector tests fine but the gray 12v feed from the gauge only has 6.5 volts. Why might that be? Battery is a full 12v. And if I bypass the sender and connect the G 12v pin to the BK ground pin in the connector, the gauge doesn't budge at all. I am missing something here.
Someone clue me in as to the right way to diagnose and fix this?
