Brian - I just re-covered my front and back panels on my 89 TC
I bought a yard of tan headliner fabric from JoAnn's for like $9.00 (had a 40% off coupon)It comes in 3 colors and the only other things you need are adhesive fabric,(I used Loctite)scissors or exacto knife and patience. I will try to load a picture so that you can see.

Because it is headliner fabric with a thin foam backer, it will look like the door panel is a little "puffy". I was very happy with the result and wasn't concerned about trying to get back to factory as much as getting rid of the crap that the previous owner had put on. I also took the metal clips off because they were damaged (torn cardboard) and used super strength Velcro strips. Make sure to remove all of the old material: glue, fabric, etc and take your time.
Good Luck!
