Make the pin diameter smaller.
Put the pin in a drill chuck. Loop emery cloth or sandpaper around the pin then run the drill to sand down the pin. Wipe the pin off and check fit in the shaft. Repeat until a slip fit (NOT sloppy) is achieved. Repeat with other half of pin that was in the drill chuck. The pin is quite hard so reducing the O.D. using this method is sufficiently controllable.
I maintain several copies of a non-Saab vehicle well known for its reliability. The distributor shaft-to-cam gear is almost identical to the 900 except it uses a slip-fit pin.
