Fish,
Thank you for posting at TSN!
The 1992 900S would have several options for converting to turbocharged engine. The most simplistic conversion would allow you to retain the original 2.1 liter engine, and engine management components. The 1992 900S employs an EZK ignition system which provides some detonation protection when updating to forced induction(Turbocharging). Typically, customers could factor a 5 horsepower increase for each psi of charge(Turbocharger Boost Pressures).
The most common conversion would be allowing for low pressure(6-7 PSI) and would only require use of the 1985 to 1993 900T's exhaust manifold, turbocharger assembly, intake plumbing, and complete exhaust system. In your case, all components would directly install onto the 1992 900S 2.1 engine application, and is a very simple, but effective, method to generate 25-30 horsepower to the NA engine.
After installation of the modifications, above, another common conversion would be conversion to a full pressure turbocharged system which could be accomplished via installation 900 turbo model's LH fuel management system, full ignition system, plus APC system which could provide 11 or more PSI. Most customers report 30 to 50 horsepower to the NA engine.
Best of luck relative to your project!
Sincerely,
Gary K. at SWEDISH DYNAMICS, INC.
