I'll start with the punchline. I just installed the second Eriksson inner driver on my 88 900TC thinking worn inner drivers were the source of a constant drive train whupping sound. Wrong!
The sound started after an uneventful 50-100 miles at 75mph on a hot summer day. You don't hear it under load, either accelerating or braking. The steering is rock-steady.
I had installed Optima wheel bearings a few thousand miles before. The car has clean Brembo rotors and OEM pads with about 10,000 miles on them. The driveshafts looked great when I cleaned them up.
One of the front brakes was squeaking with each rotation until I recently chamfered the pads.
Any ideas as to what the sound could be? I feel a bit like the princess and the pea but it's bugging the heck out of me.
One disc has only one retaining screw, the other doesn't have any screws. The tires are 9 year old Michelins with about 10,000 miles on them.
Sound familiar to anybody?
