my method is to take my propane torch (unlit) and pass it over each vacuum line and each connection while the car is idling. If there's a leak, the rpm will go up. This method works great for erratic idle issues, however can miss leaks where the line only leaks when the line is pressurized by the turbo. I once had a concentric tear just in front of the throttle that made me crazy until I found it. The tear would only open under high boost.
