Thank you all for such a quick response!
I ordered a Beck-Arnley master from Rock Auto. And I decided to get a slave as well, just in case. Both for about $100 with shipping. Not knowing what's in the car, genuine or aftermarket, I decided to buy new vs rebuilding.
When it comes to back-flushing, I assume you mean to push the new fluid up through the slave bleed nipple with a syringe, making sure to take out the nasty stuff first. I guess I would use a piece of tubing from the syringe to the bleed nipple?
Will that also suffice for bleeding the system or will I need to do something further? The clutch hydraulics on the older Saabs tend to be troublesome and hard to bleed, and I use a spare clutch master cap with a fitting tapped in that I can pressurize. Bleeds instantly.
I got home from work a few minutes ago and the clutch seems fine now (of course). I drove it back and forth in the driveway. Still no leaks. I guess when the master goes, it leaks internally, with fluid bypassing the seals?
I forgot to try the brake pump test. Will do that later.
Thanks again,
eric in vermont
